Educators without Borders International (EWBI) organized, on Monday & Tuesday, August 17th and 18th 2020, an online webinar presented by Dr. Mohamed AlBaili, Chairman of EWB, titled "Distance Learning .. Opportunities & Challenges", in both Arabic and English languages.
Dr. Mohamed AlBaili said that the Covid-19 pandemic had imposed great challenges on the educational process in the world, as two options were only available for the educational institutions, either closing it to protect lives or continuing with the least number of losses, indicating that there are two methods of distance learning, which are synchronous and asynchronous.
AlBaili mentioned the advantages of distance learning; flexibility, low cost, enhancing individual learning skills, and ease of access to educational materials. It also helps students with disabilities to achieve the principle of equality in opportunities.
He mentioned as well the challenges facing distance learning, in terms of the availability of advanced communication infrastructure, presence of well-trained teachers, difficulties in understanding, communicating, and interacting for students, as distance learning requires the presence of students' self-monitoring and friendly using of technology, and it suffers as well from some parents’ negative view who stick to the traditional education.
The Chairman of EWBI indicated that education is about to face great changes and challenges, and we must be prepared and aware of all emergency conditions, and artificial intelligence will impose itself on us in the future as a supporter of the education process.
It is worth mentioning that Educators without Borders International is an international organization based in Geneva, concerned with providing educational services for children in affected regions, and improving training services in crisis areas.
